What is the difference between the East Coast and west coast swing dance?
What is the difference between the east coast and west coast swing dance? What are the steps? They both do the same twists and turns and tricks and stuff?
There are actually many types of swing dances. Beyond East Coast and West Coast. East Coast Swing is a standard ballroom dance that developed in the 1940s as the popularity of swing big band music and dancing popular as the Lindy Hop swing reached its peak of popularity. It has a six-count basic. Following the example of Ballroom and East Coast Swing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bk7ZzkQk2U Lindy Hop is an original swing dance, created in Harlem in the late 20s, and was best known at the Savoy Ballroom out through the 30s. Today, offstage competitive ballroom, East Coast Swing taught as a first dance or springboard for learning Lindy Hop, as dance is really easy to learn for a beginner compared to the Lindy Hop, which is a bit more complex. (Historic dancers look up, Shorty George Snowden and Frankie Manning). It has a 8 Count Basic. The Lindy Hop "wing" is in fact identical to the West Coast "whip."
