Is it physically safe New York Police Officer patrolling the streets having to walk 8 hours a day?
in this heat wave with temperatures on top of 90, while a bulletproof vest heavy (which is like wearing a heavy winter coat under his uniform) and carry about 20 pounds of equipment on their belts. Why New York City Police Union do something about it and let the police use of air conditioning, and patrol cars in this heat wave? If there is not enough Police Cars to all police officers to use. Why not patrol officers foot switch places with police in the patrol cars every 2 hours?

The life of a police officer
Police officers face many dangers in their work. Police officers are constantly the unknown and unpredictable. I never really know the outcome of any situation they enter into. This can make the police a dangerous profession. The hazards faced by police include death, increased risk of infectious diseases and serious and minor trauma, both physical and emotional. These dangers are found in many different situations ie apprehension / arrest and investigation of criminals, conducting vehicle stops, investigating people and crimes, protect the public from dangerous situations or individuals, investigating traffic accidents and witnessing the carnage that often results from accidents, suicides and in response to direct traffic.
Individuals are attracted to police work, for many reasons. These often include a desire to protect public order and social integration of offenders and the danger, the desire to maintain a position of respect and authority, a disdain for or antipathy towards offenders and rulebreakers; the professional challenges of the work, the employment benefits that have jobs in public administration in many countries, sense of camaraderie that often has the police, or a family tradition of police work or civil service. An important task of recruitment activity Police agencies in many countries is the examination of potential candidates to determine the adequacy of their character and personality for the job, often through background investigations and consultation with a psychologist.
A police officer is a person who works for a police force. Usually, only refers to those who have been sworn in as police officers, and does not include civilian support staff. Promotion is not automatic and usually requires the candidate to pass some kind of examination, interview or a board selection process. After completing a certain period of service, officials may also apply specialist positions such as detective, police dog handler, mounted police computer, motorcycle, water police officer or firearms officer (in the forces are not routinely armed).
In addition to any formal qualifications required, potential police officers should have a genuine interest in working with the public and possess an inquiring mind.
