What model Train Set / accessories are good for beginners?
My husband has always been fascinated with model trains and models miniature that go along with them. I thought it would be a great gift, but have no idea how to start or how much money you are spending. He enjoys preparing cities / scenes / or they are called, and he is good in the aspect of the painting and details. I'm asking for as much information as you want to. Thanks!
Ok, you have some good answers so far. A note, however, Hobby Lobby has no elements of the model railway, but still have glue paint etc. many modelers will need. This is a very broad question and the answer depends largely on your own husbands, desires and needs. Model trains come in a variety of scales and times so the first step would be to narrow the focus and find out what my husband find fasinating about trains. Do you like modern equipment or steam in the past? Does Here a railroad area of the country? Model trains come in many scales. The main ones are G, O, S, N HO and Z, ranging from the largest to smallest. I worked in the Most of these scales. Right now I'm modeling scales G and N. These are located at opposite ends of the spectrum. G is a large scale and most can be installed at the entrance. This would be great if the two you like gardening or just being outdoors. This scale tends to be fast expensive, but the large size also allows the modeler to build a large part of its own topic instead of buying them. I found the price or construction kits of the few who was able to buy enough wood to build teams work both frieght cars and buildings. It is perfectly possible to model all trains and places. Some modelers have incorporated designs in bags and coffee tables. This is a good option for someone with limited space. I now pick up items I like, especially railway engines and cars of Carolinas in the 1950's and then run from time to time. Visit a local hobby shop that sells trains. They may be able to help. In addition, as someone mentioned, the Model Railway is a great resource. They usually have a series aimed at beginners that starts around Christmas. If you go the route G Scale, Garden Railways is also a good resource. Hope this is of some use to you.
