When he entered the NASCAR 90 was the continued success as a sport. Definitely not a mainstream sport great yet, but had good coverage. He had a lot of drama when it came to the championships and drivers. 90 and 91 had large NASCAR Dale Earnhardt won his fourth and fifth championship in NASCAR. He also won his sixth and seventh in the 93 and 94. To win four championships in five years is a great achievement in what was then the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. In the 92 NASCAR driver Alan Kulwicki won the championship by just 10 points!
The most exciting race of the Championship that they really came to the last back, literally. Alan carry only one lap of NASCAR driver Bill Elliott, and outside of it ended up with only one spot! Alan won the race and Bill was second. Alan calculated exactly around that if he took another turn, he would win the championship, and that's exactly what happened. Was in many respects, NASCAR's closest championship battle in the history of sport. That last race, the Hooters 500, not only had the closest finish in NASCAR history, but was the retirement of seven-Time Champion Richard Petty and the beginning of a promising career for Jeff Gordon.
Jeff Gordon was born in California, and was born to race. Ran karts at age 5, and his adolescence was a land dominated Sprint Car racer. He was always interested in the Indy Car series, and always wanted to run the Indianapolis 500 growth. But that never happened. Then ran a Busch Series Car for Bill Davis Racing, capturing Rookie of the Year in 91, winning a record NASCAR 11 poles in 92. All members of a Ford Thunderbird. In 92 Jeff got his first start in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series then driving a Chevrolet Lumina for Rick Hendrick. Jeff wrecked and ended up in the 30's, but that would be what would define his legacy.
In just two years Jeff was always a contender in the different venues that NASCAR visits. He won his first of what is currently 83 wins in the 1994 Coca-Cola 600. In the following year, Jeff was going to win their first championship NASCAR Winston Cup Racing. But more was to come of this legacy and the legacy of Dale Earnhardt.
