Isn’t this manslaughter?
In May 2000, a two-page police report about a fatal car crash caused by Bush when she was 17 was made public. The report says that on November 6, 1963 Bush (then Laura Welch) was driving her Chevrolet sedan with her classmate Judy Dyke. It was shortly after 8 pm on a clear night when Welch entered the intersection of U.S. Highway 349 and Texas Farm Road 868. Bush failed to observe the intersection’s stop sign and collided with a Chevrolet Corvair sedan driven by her ex-boyfriend Michael Dutton Douglas, also 17. Bush and Dyke sustained minor injuries; Douglas was pronounced dead on arrival at Midland Memorial Hospital. Welch was not ticketed or charged in connection with the collision.
Apparently the people present on the scene in 1963 who investigated the accident didn’t think so. And if this 17 year-old girl had not later in life met and married the man who became the current President of the USA, you wouldn’t even be asking this question, so what’s your point?
Managed Pcs launched by Dell
The first computer including industry-standard PC management software has been released by Dell Computers, which lessons the necessity to bring out a separate “Net PC” computer.
The Desktop Management Interface Software is a tool that would make the management of PCs easier for corporations. This software can be added to any prevailing PC line.
The Net PC requirement is a separate effort promoted by Microsoft, Intel, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, and Dell. It is intended to offer great advantage to the large corporations by providing a new category of low- maintenance PCs which would help them to lessons the total cost of managing PCs.
The group president at International Data Corporation, Bruce Stephen, revealed the statement which states that the bottom lines was that these manageability tools could be applied to any PC. He also added that this was the way it should had been in the first place.
DMI 2.0 into its OptiPles corporate desktops, Latitude Xpi notebooks, and Workstation 400 systems along with Dell’s own Inspector 4.0 will be integrated by Dell, an application hat further eases administration. The software will roll out as a standard feature on all these computers.
DMI technology let a central administrator to regulate the health of desktop across a network as well as take the account of the software that resides there. The tool like DMI, makes it easier for corporations to collect information and take remedial actions by cutting down administration cost.
The first phase of a three-stage process is represented by support for DMI. The Dell will also endorse the Wired for Management Specification from Intel, when the specification will become available in the near future, it will allow the administrator to start computers remotely. In the third phase, Dell will incorporate endorse for the Zero Administration kit from Microsoft, which is expected to reduce the cost of software upgrading.
Like the Chevrolet Corvair and Space Food Sticks, the Net PC appears to become an invention more famous than popular. The Net PC is created as an alternative to the Network Computer touted by Sun Microsoft, it was anticipated as a sealed-case computer based on Intel and Microsoft technology.
The Net PC would lessen the computing costs for the large organizations, although it is less flexible than ordinary PCs, because the boxes could be managed from a central server. Currently, corporation is looking forward to hire employees to shuffle between the computers to load software; through DMI, which was part and parcel of Net PCs, software could be remotely loaded.
