Ferdinand Porshe was born 3 September 1875 and died 30 January 1951. He was best known for designing the original Volkswagen Beetle and for his contribution to advanced German Tank designs: Tiger I, Tiger II and the Elefant.

Ferdinand Porsche was known to say “If you think about an object’s function, the form sometimes creates itself”. Porsche has built its name on outstanding design but with uncomprising engineering.

The Porsche motor company produce four designs, the Boxter, the Cayman, the 911 and the Cayenne (Porsche’s 4×4), but probably the most desirable of all these is the Porsche 911, the quintessential Sports Car for over 40 years, a superb sports car for everyday driving. The exquisite lines make this car a work of art.

The Porsche 911 comes in the following models:

- the 911 Carrera Coupe model, a 2+2 with six cylinders,325-355 hp, 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 177 miles per hour.

- the 911 Carrera Cabriolet model, similar to the model above, but with a drop head roof and 0 to 60 in 5 seconds

- the 911 Targa 4 model, again similar to the above model, the 911 Carrera coupe but with slight variations.

- The 911 Turbo, the flagship of the company and the ultimate in driving force. A 2+2, 6 cylinder, 480 hp, 0 to 60 in only 3.7 seconds ad a top speed of 193 miles per hour.

- Finally, the 911 GT3 model, uncompromising race engineering similar to the 911 Turbo but 415 hp, 0 to 60 in 4.15 seconds and a top speed of 193 miles per hour.

With the top of the range Porsche 911 Turbo having a 0 to 60 performance in 3.7 seconds you better make sure you have the necessary driving skills for this machine or you may find you are not in control of this phenomenal beast.

Many Porsche owners join Porsche clubs which are made up of like minded owners who appreciate the beauty, elegance and ability of one of the world’s finest Sports Cars.

Clubs provide news and events, and for the serious owner who wants to take things that little bit further club racing events are available. There is usually a technical question and answer section in any Porsche club where members can exchange knowledge.

Porsche Club of America is made up of many clubs covering numerous regions around the country. Porsche Chicago is one of the regions and the club provides events, drivers’ education and club racing – Porsche Chicago Owners Club is a must for any serious Porsche owner.

Each club usually has a web site where information can be obtained and Porsche Chicago is no exception, it also has a section where potential members can join online.

When Ferdinand Porsche was born in Liberec in the Czech Republic in 1875, little did anyone realise his name would become synonymous with the words sports car and ultimate driving experience!

returning home from Chico, and the abandonment of the middle class …?

In a machine shop that I visit, with the opening for an apprentice machinist, which is eventually paid $ 40-65 dollars per hour (after 3-4 years of training). You know something … After nine months, there is NO takers … Pepsi / Nintendo generation (gross disappointment right) grew up with going to college, obtaining degrees worthless, or "popular" level, such amd IT and software "engineers" (both from a dime a dozen, and the second a title is not beyond writing code) arts, liberal studies. Like some American Idol episode, single young people today believe they will be "discovered" and become the next big resource to society through work or lack of moral ethics. This is the first generation of children born in 100 years are actually less intelligent, less educated than the last. As an engineer, I always wonder about people who think I am "lucky" that I own a Porsche, or own a home. Work is called hard. "Easy" street is full of anguish.

You are absolutely right. Cry for future generations, but I have difficulties to generate the sympathy.
