Oshkosh Trucks to Produce Mine resistant ambush protected vehicles
Oshkosh Trucks has always been known for producing duty trucks severe. They were also known to produce Fire Trucks, ambulances, concrete mixers, waste transporters, cranes, trucks and snowplows. All of these vehicles have been quite popular and has been recognized for reliability and endurance. Therefore, it is no surprise that the company has been commissioned by the Corps U.S. Marines to produce Military Vehicles.
The company recently announced that it has been awarded by the U.S. Systems Command Marine Corps under a contract of $ 30,600,000. The grant of the production is for the assembly of mine-resistant vehicles Ambush Protected. These vehicles will employed by the government agency said on battlefields where American troops are deployed.
Oshkosh Trucks is a production of 100 units CategoryI1 of MRAP and the first batch to be delivered within 120 days as specified by the U.S. Marine Corps. The rapid production is needed, as the U.S. Marine Corps has an urgent demand for these vehicles. Apart from this, however, Oshkosh has already produced vehicles for the military and this may be a of the reasons why they were chosen to carry out the production of MRAP vehicles.
The MRAP vehicle program by the U.S. Marine Corps need more or less 4100 Category I and Category II vehicles. The Government needs to spend more than $ 2 billion in that company. Following the granting of the scholarship of production, Robert G. Bohn, President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Oshkosh Truck has commented that: "Oshkosh is prepared to meet and exceed the critical delivery and protection requirements of the Marine Corps U.S. and the MRAP program. The armored vehicles have been proposed are designed to save lives in the face of threats of today's asymmetric warfare and mine and improvised explosive devices. Our production capacity and engineering will ensure the rapid delivery of world-class armored vehicles as the program MRAP continues to develop. "
The MRAP program is a joint venture of the Marine Corps and U.S. Army. The program is under Capacity Rapid Deployment authority – whose objective is the deployment of armored vehicles for U.S. troops in the theater or place of conflict. Oshkosh is just one of the nine companies which have been granted under a production contract MRAP program.
Apart from the production of these vehicles, Oshkosh will also support long- deadline for MRAP vehicles. Bohn emphasized this fact in his statement. "We are also willing to provide logistics support required long-term by a deployed MRAP fleet. Oshkosh has the experience and infrastructure in place in the theater of operation to provide any level of support is needed.
